about

This long-form piece is inspired by the titular structure from Joe Abercrombie's 'First Law' trilogy. It is intended as a study in space and depth.

Here is an excerpt form the First Law Wiki to give you more of an idea.

"There is a brutal honesty in its grim immensity. There are no windows in those naked walls, no softness, no indulgence in that mountain of naked stone; a merciless precision in its sharp, black angles.

Within the House is a massive space with impossible geometry....The House has the ability to bend space and time."

Characters spend days in the House before leaving to find minutes has passed, or spend suddenly find themselves atop, looking down over the city, despite not having climbed a single step.

For the piece, I have tried to echo the blurry edges of time and space, as exemplified within the House. It is split into three distinct parts loosely timed:

Part 1 - 0:00 - 9:00
Part 2 - 9:00 - 14:30
Part 3 - 14:30 - end.

Each part deals evokes the sepia-tinted, misty-eyed confusion of memories which never happened; of a love you convinced yourself was real but existed nowhere beyond your fever dreams: of a future that's already happened and a past that's yet to come.

Drones, layers and washes interplay with piano motifs from a long-forgotten time.
